Mixed Euro Boxing 3 [Old School Review]

Review of: Mixed Euroboxing 3
Length: 9min 46sec

IN SHORT:
ACTION - Quite good! Punches are being thrown although certainly no one is going all out, lots of jabbing. There are some hiccups and cool down points, but overall it's nice to see the male actually fight back and even take control here and  there.

CAMERA - Very poor.  There are multiple cameras outside the ring, one view is great, the others not so much plus cameramen who focus on asses and not action. Or try to zoom and end up missing everything.

QUALITY - It's an old VHS rip, so know that going in. Outside of the bad camera shots, it's watchable.

Full review:

This DVD was bought for me as a gift from a friend. It's one of the old style European mixed boxing videos that are highly sought after, and does not seem to be a DWW production. The actual producer I am unsure of, although it is apparently also  German based.

It's one of the extremely few boxing videos ever made that pit a model/female fighter against a man who overmatched her at least slightly in size and experience, as opposed to DWW's formula of picking 18 and under green boys and matching them up against near 30 year old extremely experienced and buff female pro boxers.  In that, if you want to see what it looks like
to have a fairly tough woman being overmatched in the boxing ring against a male, you actually get to see that here. The man is dominating here and there, although there are plenty of times he sits back and just defends while she wears herself out. That can get a little boring, it happens quite a bit.

The skill of the fighters does not appear to be very high, although they are definitely not untrained. That's not really a negative  point, just commentary.  If you're  expecting a high-level boxing exchange, that's not what this video is about.  Again, not a negative thing.  The girl is capable of throwing good jabs and keeping her hands up, but she does not seem used to taking hits.  The guy is not necessarily throwing at her that hard, but she does get caught with good hits, including right on the nose which makes her turn away.  The pace of the bout is rather quick, with lots of punches being thrown. The  editing cuts are odd though and throw things off.

Parts of the video, the blonde topless woman is coming after the guy while he is mostly just being defensive and his punches are much lighter.  Seems like after popping her the first round, he got told to cool it off.

The video quality is that of an old VHS, but to be expected given the age. For the most part, it's watchable and the  resolution is decent (SD). The camerawork however is unforgiveably bad.  If you are watching a video like this, you want to see action. you don't care about zooming in on her bouncing ass for 25 seconds.  5 is enough. We want to see BOXING.  This video also seems to be 2 different camera angles catching the same action and switching back and forth between them.
1 angle is good, the other is Mr Assman camera guy that misses a lot of the action.  Unfortunate. There also appears to be some repeated footage even from the same camera.

Things I like:  As stated, the boxing skill isn't extremely high. Given the size difference, this puts the woman at a disadvantage.  She's flinching and shying away from the punches rather than putting up her guard or trying to move more.  She's in over her head and likely knows it but keeps trying to fight on.  That's a rare thing in these types of videos. It could also be the man is just not being pushed enough to show what he can do, as his defense when she comes at him is good.

Things I don't like: The shoddy camera work. There are also some odd cuts in the action and then it restarts in the middle, not sure what's going on there. The first camera is a good angle, good lighting, catching the action. Then about a minute in it switches to a camera where the light is blasting right in to it, then it just pans down to focus on her ass.  It doesn't stay there forever, but there's action going on and you're missing it because of  this. And it happens multiple times. Then our genius camera man is zoomed in so far he actually can't find the fighters at all. There also appears to be some repeated footage?

[Spoiler for the ending below the next image!]

The girl goes down from a rib shot after vastly over-exerting herself. The punch barely seems to graze and she falls fast, almost immediately. She struggles to rise, is helped up and the match is over there.  While shots hurt FAR more when you are at your stamina limits, it's hard to  say a graze like that would have dropped someone since she hadn't really been getting worked there prior.  So the ending seems quite staged. Not really an issue for me, but if you're one of those "EVERYTHING HAS TO BE REAL" types,  then you might find that disappointing.

Overall: I was very happy to get this as a gift, and I'm not sure I would have purchased it otherwise, or I might've been a bit disappointed.  The site that sells it looks shady from what I understand, and the camera issues hurt what is otherwise good action.  The parts where the man is actually punching and the girl is under fire are great.  Even when the guy defends her onslaught, it's entertaining for awhile, although it does go on a bit too long. The bad camera work, odd cuts, and footage recycling hurts it.

Score: 7/10
